DALLAS, Texas – For the first time in his career,
J.D. Hennen has been named the National Pitcher of the Week, announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Thursday afternoon. He earned the award for the week ending on March 9, 2024, and becomes the sixth Viking to earn an NCBWA weekly honor.
Hennen was masterful in his start against Bemidji State last Sunday, throwing the first no-hitter in the NSIC while earning a win in Augustana's 15-0 win over Bemidji State. He struck out 15 in a seven inning, run rule shortened game, two behind a program record
The junior from Alexandria, Minnesota, forced 25 whiffs on 90 pitches and worked two-strike counts on both hitters that reached base. He also induced three flyouts and three groundouts in the win.
Entering play this week, Hennen holds a has 19 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings of action on the season. For his career, he ranks eighth in program history with 11.87 strikeouts/9 innings and fifth with a .185 opponents batting average.
The Vikings are ranked 17th in the most recent NCBWA Poll, and are back in action on Sunday for a doubleheader against MSU Dever in Rapid City, S.D.
