ST. PAUL, Minn. – Augustana hockey collected three of the CCHA's four weekly Player of the Week awards after its weekend sweep of Northern Michigan as
Heath Nelson,
Mathis Langevin and
Leonid Bulgakov were all honored, league officials announced on Monday.
Nelson exploded on Friday night for the first ever single-game five-point performance in Augustana hockey history. He scored twice in the shutout win—including the game-winning goal—and dished out three assists for the record-breaking showing. The freshman finished the weekend with a +6 rating while tying for the lead on the team and in the conference in points, goals and assists.
Langevin collected a conference-best .975 save percentage over the 2-0-0 weekend alongside a 0.50 goals-against average to rank third in the nation in both categories. He stopped 39-of-40 shots in the series against the Wildcats and nabbed his first career shutout after turning away all 19 NMU attempts in Friday's 12-0 victory. The sophomore followed that standout performance up by rejecting another 20 in the 4-1 series-sweeping Saturday win.
Rounding out the Vikings honorees was Bulgakov, who had himself a weekend as he led the conference in goals (2), assists (3), points (5), shots on goal (10) and plus-minus (+7) during the weekend at Midco Arena. His five points across the two-game series tied to lead the then-No. 11/11 Vikings, with four of those points coming in Friday's 12-0 win over NMU. He netted one first period goal before dishing three assists to become the first four-point performer in school history before tallying an empty-netter in Saturday's 4-1 win.
Augustana hits the road this weekend for a two-game series against Michigan Tech on Friday and Saturday, with puck drops set for 6:07 p.m. CT and 5:07 p.m. CT, respectively.
