ST. PAUL, Minn. – Two members of the Augustana hockey team were honored by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association on Tuesday as
Leonid Bulgakov and
Landon Fandel earned CCHA Player of the Month accolades for the month of October.
After each playing a key role in the Vikings' nationally-ranked 7-0-1 showing during October, Bulgakov was named the CCHA Forward of the Month while Fandel was named the CCHA Defenseman of the Month.
Bulgakov led the conference in goals (8), points (11), shots (30) and shot percentage (.267) in October to help the currently-ranked No. 8/9 Augustana Vikings to unbeaten month of competition. Behind a plus/minus of +11, the sophomore scored two goals off the power play alongside one game-winner through the first eight games of the season. According to the conference, he carries a five-game goal-scoring streak that sits as the longest active streak in the country. Bulgakov put on a standout performance against Northern Michigan last weekend on home ice as he became the first single-game four-point performer in AU history with one goal and three assists in the 12-0 win.
Fandel totaled seven points throughout the month of October off his own three goals while dishing out assists on four more to lead the CCHA blueliners. He accumulated a +6 rating over the course of the month alongside his .250 shot percentage and eight blocked shots—six of which came in the overtime victory against Omaha on October 15. His defensive presence was a key component to Augustana beginning its season with a 7-0-1 record thus far alongside a 2-0-0 showing in conference competition.
Augustana continues its conference slate this weekend, this time on the road, as the Vikings take on Michigan Tech on Friday and Saturday in Houghton.
