SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For the third straight season,
Max Ramberg has earned All-America honors to highlight the first day of NCAA DII National Championships in the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
A senior from Baldwin, Wisconsin, the top-ranked 197-pounder took care of business on his way to the championship semifinals. He took down Joey Lyons of Gannon in a narrow decision to get his day started. In the quarterfinals against No. 8 Bradley Morrison of Pitt-Johnstown, Ramberg got an early takedown and added four backpoints to take a 7-4 lead after a period. He would add a takedown in the second and takedown in the third en route to a 14-5 major decision and an All-America honor.
At 184 pounds,
Charlie Petit wrestled the most matches for the Vikings in his first NCAA appearance. The redshirt freshman started with a bang, picking up a 14-4 major decision in the prelims to earn a spot in the championship first round. There, he fell to No. 7 Patrick Jackson of Gannon to move into the consolation bracket. He started his run there with a 7-2 victory over Bradley Mayse of Grand Valley State before falling 7-1 to No. 1 Cole Glazier in the second round, falling one bout short of All-America status.
Coy Gunderson had a pair of matches on Friday, losing late leads in both to close the region champion's season with a record of 19-7.
