Augustana ready for NSIC home opener Friday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana University women's basketball team will host their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games of the 2015-16 season as they host Minnesota State on Friday at 6 p.m. and Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both games will be played at the Sioux Falls Arena.

Augustana is coming of a weekend where they went 2-0, but they played two very contrasting games.

Against Peru State the Vikings could not miss. They shot a season-high 53.6 percent from the field on 37-69 shooting while also shooting 53.3 percent from behind the 3-point line on 8-15 shooting. Augustana also shot 70 percent from the free-throw line. But when they took on Dordt College they shot a season low 26 percent from the field on 21-79 shooting while shooting just 13 percent from behind the arc on 4-30 shooting. The Vikings 13 percent 3-point shooting was their worst since Jan. 10, 2015 when they shot 12 percent against Minnesota State.
Senior Nicole Kerkhoff, earned the first double-double of the season for the Vikings with 10 points and 10 rebounds against the Defenders of Dordt College. The double-double was the seventh of her career.

Freshman Shelby Selland made her first career start against Peru State and posted a career-high 14-points while also recording three blocks against the Defenders. Selland is currently averaging two blocks per game.

The Vikings are meeting a very familiar foe in Minnesota State on Friday. Augustana currently leads the all-time series 40-28 but have lost to the Mavericks in three consecutive meetings. At home against Minnesota State, Augustana has a 21 wins to 10 losses advantage in the series. The Vikings and Golden Bears have been even throughout their short history of playing each other. Augustana currently holds an 11-10 advantage over Concordia-St. Paul, winning the last match-up 76-62 back on Jan. 9.
