Vikings open the New Year with a conference clash against USF and SMSU

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana University women's basketball team will open up the New Year at home as they host the University of Sioux Falls nd Southwesst Minnesota State. The game between the Vikings and Cougars is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tip-off on Friday, followed by a 3 p.m. tip-off Saturday against the Mustangs.

STARTING FIVE
• Augustana ended the calendar year with a winning record for the 27th consecutive season
• The last time the Viking entered a new calendar year with a losing cord was back in the 1988-89 season when they started the season 4-6
• This is the Vikings best record to enter the new calendar year since they went a perfect 9-0 back in the 2012-13 season. They ended that season with a 28-7 record and made it to the Final Four
• The Vikings are 10-2 overall and 4-2 in the NSIC
• Augustana enters the home contests with a perfect 6-0 record

AUGUSTANA VS USF
• Augustana and the University of Sioux Falls will be meeting for the 28th time when they battle at the Arena
• The Vikings hold a decisive advantage over the Cougars in the Win/ Loss column. Augustana is 28-5 all-time against their cross town rivals
• The two teams split their season series a year ago, each winning on their home floor. USF won the first match-up 72-77 while Augustana got revenge at the Sioux Falls Arena 80-69 on Valentine's Day
• Augustana is 10-1 all-time against the University of Sioux Falls at Home
• This will be the sixth meeting between the two programs at the Sioux Falls Arena. Augustana holds  5-1 record against the Cougars at the Arena
• The Cougars head coach is Travis Traphagen
• Traphagen enters his seventh season as the USF head coach
• While at USF Traphagen as compiled 98 wins and 52 losses
• The Vikings will enter the match-up with USF in second-place in the NSIC South Division with a 4-2 conference record. Sioux Falls sits in second at 5-1

AUGUSTANA VS SMSU
• This will be the 28th all-time meeting between Southwest Minnesota State and Augustana
• Augustana holds a 19-9 overall record against the Mustangs
• The two teams split their season series a year ago with the Vikings losing in Marshall, Minn. 77-71 in January. They defeated Southwest at the Arena in February 84-58
• Before the January loss to Southwest, the Vikings had won seven straight
• Since the two schools have been in the same conference Augustana holds a decisive advantage in win/loss with a 10-2 conference record
• When the two teams play at home Augustana is 10-2 opposed to 6-4 when they play in Marshall, Minn. The teams have been even on a neutral court, each winning three games
• This will be just the second time that Augustana has hosted Southwest at the Sioux Falls Arena
• The Mustang head coach is Allison Kruger
• Kruger enters her sixth season as the SMSU head coach with a career overall record of 24-111 and 18-92 career record in conference playKruger is 6-57 on the road in her career and 2-8 against Augustana

• Sophomore Logan O'Farrell is currently tied for 17th in the nation in total steal with 31. Logan also ranks 28th in the nation in steals per game average with 2.9 steals per game
• Senior Sophie Kenney is ranked 34th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio with a 2.26 assist-to-turnover ratio
• Redshirt freshman Shelby Selland is tied for 20th in nation in blocked shots with 23 on the season. Her 2.09 blocks per game average has her tied for 29th in the nation
• Augustana is ranked 32nd in the country in scoring average per game. Through 11-games the Vikings are averaging 75.5 points per game (Sioux Falls is 33rd with 75.4 ppg)
• Augustana is ranked 10th in the country in total three-point field goals attempted. Through the 11-games the Vikings have attempted 286 three-point field goals. The top team in the country has attempted 488
• The Vikings are tied for 39th in the country for three-point field goals made with 80
• Augustana is shooting just 27 percent from behind the arc on the season
• Augustana's 81.8 percent winning percentage through 11-games this season is the 38th best winning percentage in the country
• The Vikings are out scoring teams this year by 12.9 points per game. Their 12.9 scoring margin is good for the 40th best mark in the country
