SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Augustana swim team appeared in their first ever invitational and they swam away with it. The Vikings took first in the team scoring at the Morningside Invitational on Saturday with 858 points.
Augustana finished 327.5 points ahead of the second place team Iowa Central Community College who had 530.5 points. Rounding out the team scoring was Gustavus, Morningside, Nebraska-Kearney, Nebraska Wesleyan, College of Saint Mary and Iowa Lakes Community College.
The Vikings finished first in eight individual races and also took two team relays.
Jojo Lohner and
Destini Oehlertz each won three individual races and
Linzie Kreizel won two races.
The 200 yard Medley Relay team of Lohner,
Julia Robberstad, Kreizel and Oehlertz took first with a time of 1:54.46 in the first event of the day. In the last event of the day the 200 yard Freestyle Relay team of Oehlertz,
Emma Miller, Lohner and
Hannah Gonzalez took first with a time of 1:42.34.
Lohner took first in the 200 and 400 yard IM, as well as, the 200 yard Breaststroke. In the 200 yard IM
Grace Porter finished behind Lohner and in the 400 yard IM the Vikings had five of the top six finishers.
Oehlertz finished in first in the 50 yard Freestyle, the 100 yard Freestyle and 100 yard Backstroke. The Vikings also went 1-2 in the 100 yard Freestyle as Gonzalez placed second.
Kriezel was first in the 100 and 200 yard Butterfly. Kriezel finished 1-2 with Porter in each Butterfly race.
The Vikings also had individuals finish second and third in two races. In the 500 yard Freestyle, Miller finished second and Kreizel was third. In the 200 yard Freestyle, Gonzalez took second and Miller finished third.
Augustana will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. as they travel to Omaha, Neb. for a dual against College of Saint Mary.
