Wrestling Signs Four During Early Signing Period

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana University head wrestling coach Jason Reitmeier has announced the signing of four student-athletes for the 2017-18 season.

Brayden Curry (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa), Trent Kruger (Sibley, Iowa), Matthew Naig (Sibley, Iowa) and Dylan Schuck (Sibley, Iowa) have signed letters of intent to continue their academic and wrestling careers at Augustana.

"We are excited to introduce Brayden Curry, Trent Kruger, Matt Naig, and Dylan Schuck to the Augustana University wrestling Family," coach Reitmeier said of his signees. "These four student-athletes are great examples of what Augustana University is all about…excellence."

The first day of the early signing period for collegiate wrestling programs was Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Brayden Curry | Sergeant Bluff, Iowa | Sergeant Bluff Luton | Projected Weight Class: 125/133 

High School: four-time letterwinner … two-time state finalist … finished third at state his freshman season … three-time team MVP.

Personal: Son of Marc and Candi Curry … born on Nov. 16, 1998 in Sioux City, Iowa … plans to major in Physical Education with aspirations to get into coaching.

Reitmeier on Curry: "The first thing I think of when I hear the name Brayden Curry is exciting! Brayden has an up tempo style of wrestling that can generate a lot of points. He has a high scoring, high energy style that will be very entertaining for all fans. We look for Brayden to challenge for a starting position immediately. Brayden is highly motivated which will make him both successful on the mat and in the classroom."

Trent Kruger | Sibley, Iowa | Sibley-Ocheyedan | Projected Weight Class: 184/197

High School: has a record of 134-22 to date in high school … placed sixth at state as a junior … qualified for state as a sophomore … has led his team in takedowns that last three years and has 285 career takedowns … three-time letterwinner … three-time team captain.

Personal: Son of Kevin and Gina Kruger … born on July 2, 1998 in Sibley, Iowa … plans to major in Chemistry.

Meester on Kruger: "I am really excited to get another wrestler from Sibley. All three are part of a special bunch. Trent has the toughness we look for in a wrestler. He's never out of a match and will do anything it takes to be successful."

High School: has a record of 120-30 to date in high school … twice named first team All-Conference … finished fifth at state as a junior and sixth as a sophomore … voted Most Valuable Wrestler his junior season … four-time letterwinner … four-time team captain.

Personal: Son of Doyle and Jean Naig … born on Jan. 17, 1999 in Sibley, Iowa … plans to major in Special Education.

Reitmeier on Naig: "We are excited about the addition of Matt to our program. He's very well-rounded, as he excels in all positions on the mat. His success is a reflection of the work he puts into wrestling year around even though he is a multiple sport athlete.  Matt's dedication to sports has carried over into the classroom, because he is an exceptional student.  Matt's family has also been friends of the program for many years and knows our coaches and student-athletes well"

Dylan Schuck | Sibley, Iowa | Sibley-Ocheyedan | Projected Weight Class: 149/157

High School: has achieved over 100 wins and 100 pins in his high school career … has broken the school record in career pins, pins in a season and wins in a season … twice named first team All-Conference … four-time letterwinner … four-time team captain … three-time Ironman Award winner … three-time Most Valuable Wrestler.

Personal: Son of Jed and Shelley Schuck … born on Dec. 13, 1998 in Sibley, Iowa … plans to major in Psychology and Biology with minors in Entrepreneurship and Business Administration with aspirations of going into the field of Orthopedics.

Reitmeier on Schuck: "We have known Dylan and his family for a very long time. We are really excited to finally have the opportunity to coach him. He has been a winner at every level and we expect him to carry that over to college. Dylan hasn't shied away from national competition which will benefit him at this level.  Dylan is also an exceptional student which is exactly what we are looking at Augustana University."
