Women's basketball ready for first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Basketball Tournament

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana University women's basketball team will open the NSIC/Sanford Health women's basketball tournament Wednesday Feb. 24. The South Division No. 3 Vikings will host North Division No. 6 Minot State at 6 p.m. in the Sioux Falls Arena.

THE STARTING FIVE
• The Vikings enter the NSIC Tournament with a record of 21-7
• The winner of the Augustana vs. Minot State game will play at 8 p.m. on Sunday Feb. 28.
• Freshman Shelby Selland set a career-high in points scored against Winona State with 17
• Senior Nicole Kerkhoff had season-high 14 rebounds against Winona State
• This will be the fifth straight season that Augustana has hosted the first round of the NSIC Tournament

AUGUSTANA AT A GLANCE
• The Vikings enter the 2016 NSIC/Sanford Health Basketball tournament as the No. 3 seed in the South Division and will host the North Division No. 6 seed Minot State
• Augustana has won 7 of their last 9 games. They had their four game winning streak snapped on Saturday Feb. 20 by #10 Winona State
• The Vikings have not lost two consecutive games this year. This is the first Vikings team to go through a season never losing two games in a row since the 1973-74 team that only played 9 games
• This will be the second time this season that Augustana has hosted Minot State. Back on Jan. 31 the Vikings beat Minot State 87-70. Augustana has an all-time record at home against the Beavers of 4-0
• This will be the first time since 2013 that the Vikings and Beavers have played twice in the same season
• In five of their last six games the Vikings have failed to make double-digit three pointers. They've made double-digit three's in nine games this season
• Augustana is shooting 38% from the field through 28 games
• The Vikings are 15-3 this season when they get at least 10 steals
• Sophie Kenney is ranked 4th in Division II in assist to turnover ratio at 3.05
• The Viking offense has been one of the best in the country the entire season. Augustana currently ranks 30th in Division II in points per game at 74.5
• The Vikings have had great success all season around the basket outrebounding 11 different opponents this season. They currently rank 15th nationally in total rebounds with 1,187 through 28 games
• Augustana has forced the 39th most turnovers during the 2015-16 season at 545 which is an average of 19.73 turnovers per game forced
• Augustana has played in two of the most attended games this season. The most attended game in D2 this season was Northern state and Augie with 4,431 fans. When Augie hosted Mary we had 2,451 fans, the 25th most in Division II this season

MINOT STATE AT A GLANCE
• Minot State enters the NSIC Tournament with an overall record of 11-7 and a record in the NSIC of 8-14. They enter the game on a 1 game losing streak after falling to Minnesota Duluth 53-67 in their final game of the regular season
• On the road this season the Beavers are 3-9 but did win their last road game against Bemidji State 66-58
• Minot State is averaging 65 points per game while giving up an average of 70 ppg. They are led offensively Savana Kingsbury and Sarah Lester who are each averaging 11.6 points per game. Lester set a career-high 30-points in their last win over St. Cloud State
• The Beavers are averaging 14.3 turnovers per game
• The Beavers rank last in the NSIC in blocked shots per game with just 44 in 28 games
• Minot State ranks fifth in the NSIC in free-throw percentage at 73.6 percent
• Minot State is coached by Sheila Green Gerding who is in her 21st season at Minot State. Green Gerding has a career coaching record of 357-256. She is the program's all-time wins leader
