INDIANAPOLIS - Augustana will send five athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Bradenton, Fla. May 26-28. The official accepted entries were released on Tuesday afternoon with the Vikings sending three women and two men.
Bree Woelber earned a qualifying provisional mark in the heptathlon breaking the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and school record with 5111 points at the NSIC Multi-Events on May 1. The score ranks as the sixth best mark in the nation. Woelber also qualified in the high jump clearing the bar at 1.74 meters at the USF Invitational on April 10. This ranks as the eighth best jump in the nation. Woelber qualified for the Javelin with a throw of 44.45 meters at the Long Beach State Pacific Coast Invite on Apr. 14. Â
Kayla Mescher returns to the NCAA Championship after winning her fourth consecutive conference championship in the 400-meter hurdles. Mescher also qualified in the 800-meters where she earned All-American honors last season. Mescher earned this qualifier by breaking the school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.92 at the Howard Wood Relays on May 7. She also broke the school record in the 800-meter with a time of 2:08.53. Both times rank ninth best in the nation.
Olivia Montez Brown continues her successful freshman campaign qualifying in the Heptathlon with a score of 4951 points at the NSIC Multi-Events on May 1. Montez Brown earned Indoor All-American honors in the pentathlon earlier this year. Montez Brown also qualified in the Long Jump by breaking the school record with a jump of 5.91 meters at the USF Invitational on April 10. Montez Brown also won the conference championship in the long jump on May 13.
Harald Karbo earns his third trip to the NCAA Championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Karbo qualified with a time of 9:01.36 at the Mt. Sac Relays on April 14. The time ranks 16th best in the nation. Karbo won the NSIC Championship in the steeplechase last weekend with a time of 9:36.40.
Anthony Huber earns his first NCAA Championship berth in the Discus Throw after throwing a provisional qualifying mark of 52.23 at the Howard Wood Relays on May 7. The throw ranks 19th best in the nation. Huber finished fourth in the discus at the NSIC Championship last weekend.
The five Viking athletes will travel to Bradenton, Fla. for the NCAA Championship on May 26-28.
