SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana University's
Leah Seivert and
Ryan Heuer have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 Team. The announcement was made by the national organization on Thursday.
District 7 is made up of member schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and the Great American Conference and is voted on by sports information directors from the member institutions and conference offices.
The Academic All-District team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for the combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Seivert and Heuer will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second, and third team All-America honorees will be announced June 23.
Seivert is the first member of the Augustana women's track and field and cross country teams to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors at Augustana. Heuer is the second member of the men's track and field program to earn Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA.
Seivert, a sophomore from Sibley, Iowa, is a two-time All-America honoree in cross country and a three-time All-America award winner in track and field for the Vikings. Seivert placed 10th at the NCAA Cross Country Championship as a freshman in 2014 before finishing in 17th this season. She earned All-NSIC First Team honors for the second straight season in 2015 finishing second at the NSIC Championship. Seivert owns the school record in the outdoor 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:38.77 which she set at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 16, 2015. She currently owns the NSIC Championship meet record in both the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter run. Seivert was named the NSIC Newcomer of the Year during the outdoor season as a freshman before going on to earn All-America honors in both the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run. Seivert owns a 4.0 grade-point average as an elementary education major at Augustana.
Heuer, a senior from Fairmont, Minnesota, is a six-time Academic All-NSIC honoree during his career. Heuer has earned All-NSIC honors nine times in his career, four during the indoor season and five times during outdoor. He is a four-time All-NSIC performer in the 60-meter hurdles during the indoor season. Heuer earned All-America honors at the 2016 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championship with a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.27. He owns the Augustana school record in the indoor 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.01 which he set at the NSIC Indoor Championship earlier this season. Heuer earned All-NSIC honors in the 400-meter hurdles in back-to-back seasons in 2014 and 2015 and was a a member of the 4x100-meter relay team that earned All-NSIC honors in 2015 and 2016. Heuer compiled a 3.70 GPA as a psychology major at Augustana.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
Located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Augustana University is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
