DES MOINES, Iowa – The Augustana track and field team started its busy weekend with a pair of competitions on Friday in Iowa. The Vikings compete at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa and the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa.
Drake Relays
Kelsey Kaufmann rose to the occasion for the Vikings on day one of the Drake Relays. Kaufmann finished third overall in the high jump, first out of Division II competition, with a personal best jump of 5-09.25. Kaufmann's mark ranks fourth in Division II and is the top mark in the NSIC.
In relays, the men's 4x800 relay team finished in second in the college division with a time of 7:41.91. The relay team consisted of
Zach Tuschen,
Austin Krohnke,
Austin Miller and
Josh Barrows.
In hurdle events,
Valerie Moos took 17th in the 400-meter hurdles and
Irene Almarcha took 26th in the 110-meter hurdles.
Kip Janvrin Open
At the Kip Janvrin Open,
Mackenzie Kelly ran to a first place finish in the 5,000-meters with a personal best time of 17.22.42. In the men's 5,000-meters, three Vikings finished in the top-10 and recorded personal best times.
Logan Burns took fifth,
Nathan Schroeder finished in ninth and
Aaron Runge took 10th.
Two other Vikings recorded top-three finishes on Friday.
Christine Campbell finished in second in the high jump with a mark of 4-11 and
Emma Anderson raced to a third place finish in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:42.4.
Augustana had a trio of competitors place in the top-12 of the 110-meter hurdles.
Dylon Van't Hof led the charge for the Vikings finishing in seventh with a time of 15.54.
Evan Ward took 11th and
Paul Meloche finished in 12th.
The Vikings return to action at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa with events beginning at 8:30 a.m.
