Swimming Secures Fourth Place Finish at Dragon Invite

WEST FARGO, N.D. -- Accumulating 1,265.5 points, the Augustana swim team secured a fourth place finish at the two day Dragon Invite Saturday evening.

Minnesota State Moorhead, the host school, finished in first place, tallying 2,373 points, with the University of Mary and Northern State finishing second and third respectively.

The Vikings recorded two first place finishes and 18 top-five finishes at the invite.  

Augustana placed three of the top five swimmers in the 1650 yard freestyle. Taylor Beagle won the race with a finals time of 18:00.46, while Emma Miller finished in second place (18:03.28 finals time) and Kelsey Gilbert in third (18:18.92). Miller also finished in first place in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.30.

The Vikings wrapped up day one of the event with 436 team points, highlighted by  seven top-five finishes from Augustana swimmers.

Jojo Lohner, Maggie Oberg, Linzie Kreizel and Hannah Gonzalez earned a fourth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a finals time of 1:56.23. In the 200 yard backstroke, Destini Oehlertz finished in second place with a finals time of 2:10.22.

In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Gonzalez, Miller, Gilbert and Oehlertz earned a finals time of 1:42.81, good enough for a second place finish in the event.

Beagle finished second in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:48.11 in the eighth event of the invite. Oehlertz continued her successful weekend with a third place finish in both the 100 yard backstroke and 50 yard backstroke. Abby Magee also swam to a third place finish in the 200 yard butterfly, earning a time of 2:19.66.

This concludes the regular season for Augustana, as the Vikings are off until the NSIC Championships which begin Wednesday, Feb. 14 in West Fargo, N.D.
