MANKATO, Minn. - Callie DeWitt and
Paul Meloche may not have been the top finishers in their respective races, but they still put up impressive numbers at the MSU Open in Mankato, Minn. on Saturday.
DeWitt lowered her own school record in the 60-meter dash in the preliminaries and semifinals of the race. DeWitt raced to a time of 7.70 to break the school record for the third time this season. DeWitt went on to take fourth in the finals with a time of. 7.76.
Meloche set a personal record time in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles to take second. Meloche's time of 8.14 was also a provisionally qualifying mark and ranks 18th in Division II.
Dylon Van't Hof finished in third and
Evan Ward took fifth in the finals of the 60-meters hurdles.
Anthony Huber also hit a provisional mark on Saturday. Huber won the shot put with a personal best mark of 16.84-meters, which ranks 20th in Division II. Huber also took 15th in the weight throw.
"We had some great performances today including personal bests, provisional qualifying marks and a new school record," assistant coach
Greg Binstock had to say of Augustana's performance on Saturday. "Today was encouraging because the team is coming together as we begin our push to the conference meet in February. We are looking forward to returning back to Mankato next weekend with more confidence and stronger team effort."
The Vikings swept the top places of the men's and women's 800-meters. In the men's race,
Josh Barrows took first with a time of 1:53.38, which converted to the seventh best time in all of Division II.
Austin Miller and
Zach Tuschen took third and fourth, respectively. In the women's race,
Carly Rahn finished in first in her first collegiate 800-meters with a time of 2:16.26.
Emily Tromp and
Cassidy Soli took third and seventh, respectively.
Valerie Gildemaster took first in the 400-meters with a season's best time of 58.19.
Emma Schmidt and
Logan Hayek finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the event. In the men's race,
Ryan Stiles took sixth with a time of 50.79.
In other mid-distance races,
Austin Krohnke finished in third in the 600-meters with a time of 1:25.42. In the men's mile,
Wyatt McLeod finished in fourth with a time of 4:18.92 and
Logan Burns took seventh with a time of 4:28.06, each were personal bests. In the women's mile,
Mackenzie Kelly finished in seventh with a time of 5:09.95.
In other sprints,
Mariah Beckius raced to a personal best time of 26.86 in the 200-meters to take eighth.
In the high jump,
Eli Anderson and
Kendra Ludeman each recorded top-five finishes. Anderson finished in third in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.84-meters. Ludeman took fourth in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.53-meters.
Pole vaulters competed on Friday and three out of the four Viking competitors finished in the top-10.
Lily Noble took third in the women's event with a personal best mark of 3.42-meters. In the men's event,
Troy Hollinsworth finished in fifth with a personal record mark of 4.12-meters and Brody Jorensen took sixth with a mark of 3.82-meters.
Augustana will make its third trip to Mankato, Minn. in four weeks to compete in the Ted Nelson Classic on Feb. 3.
