Swimming Falls to SDSU in a Tight Dual

The Vikings are now 2-1 on the year

Brookings, S.D. – Hitting the road for the first time in 2018, the Augustana women's swim team traveled to Brookings for a Friday night duel at the Marshall Center Pool. Despite taking first in six events the Vikings fell to SDSU, 153-127. Augustana is now 2-1 on the year in duals.

Lindsie Micko, third-year head coach of the Vikings, was encouraged by the Vikings performance and looks forward to building on it going forward. "I'm really proud of our team's performance tonight," Micko said, "everyone battled and fought for each other. I'm excited to see us continue to get better as we go on a tough road trip to Bismarck and Moorhead next weekend."

Augustana started the triangular off strong with back-to-back wins. First, the Vikings earned a team win in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:02.88. Shortly after, Sophomore Kelsey Gilbert kept pace and took first place in the 1000-yard freestyle, followed by her teammate Sophomore Taylor Beagle who took second.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, sophomore Micah Hudlet took first with a time of 1:08.71. Freshman Maddie Szeremet followed that with a victory in the 200-yard butterfly.

Later in the night, Junior Emma Miller took first in the 500-yard freestyle time of 5:17.35. Szeremet got her second win of the night in the 100-yard butterfly for the Vikings' last win of the night.

The Vikings return to action Friday, Oct. 26 when they will travel to Bismarck, N.D.. to take on U-Mary in a conference dual.
