Women's Basketball Set For Non-Conference Tune-Ups In Puerto Rico

The Vikings take the court three times in Puerto Rico

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- On the heels of an undefeated 4-0 start, the Augustana women's basketball team now returns to action for a set of games in Puerto Rico. The Vikings will take on UPR Rio Piedras on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 1:00 p.m., Thursday Nov. 22 at 3:00 p.m. against Central Oklahoma, and close out the trip against UPR Bayamon at 5:00 p.m on Friday. All games will be played in Atlantic Standard time, two hours ahead of Central Standard Time.

Augustana has opened their 2018-19 season going undefeated after four contests, with the most recent win coming over Dakota State, 87-41. The Vikings were led by four student-athletes that had double digit scoring. Abby Hora led the way with 17 points, five rebounds, two assists, two seals in 17 minutes. Hora, Lynsey Prosser (12 pts), Shelby Selland (10 pts), and career-high 14 points from Vishe' Rabb marked the four Vikings to tally double digits scoring.

The Vikings enter the Puerto Rico Classic averaging 82.8 points per game while shooting 47 percent from the field. Augustana has connected on 36 three-point field goals this season and is shooting 42.4 percent from beyond the arc. Augustana has shot 43 free throws and enters the weekend shooting 74.1 percent from the stripe.

Through four games, the Vikings rank among the conferences best in numerous categories. They lead the NSIC with 5.50 blocks per game, and are second in assists at 17 per game. The Vikings 82.8 points per game is second in the league.

Central Oklahoma comes into the game at 4-0. Most recently, they beat Oklahoma Christian. They are led by Shatoya Bryson, who is scoring 10.8 points per game.

UPR Rio Piedras is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Gallitos look to take on Augustana for the second time in history, the last time the team's played the Vikings won 70-44.

UPR Bayamon is 0-4 so far this season. Their largest loss came on November 17th against Livingstone, where they lost 71-76. This game will be the third times the two teams have played and the last time they tipped off Augustana won 92-61.

After returning from the Puerto Rico trip, the Vikings will hold one more non-conference contest on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Elmen Center vs. Waldorf. Augustana will then open NISC play at home at the SIoux Falls Arena. The Vikings will play Wayne State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 with the men's game to follow.
