SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Freshman
Callie DeWitt continues to do things that normal college true freshmen should not be doing so early in their career. DeWitt broke the school record in the 100-meters on day one of the Sioux City Relays in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday.
DeWitt became the first Augustana woman student-athlete to break the 12-second barrier in the 100-meter preliminaries with a time of 11.98. DeWitt broke the previous record of 12.09 that was held by
Alaina Klapperich (2016),
Carina Hofmeister (2015) and Tonia Burgard (2003).
DeWitt had the top time in the 100-meter prelims and will advance to tomorrow's finals. Also advancing to the finals was Klapperich who finished with the fifth best time of 12.33. DeWitt also took second in the 200-meters and
Selin Dikmen finished in seventh. In the men's 100-meters,
Brady Wall qualified for the finals with a personal best time of 10.95.
In hurdles,
Valerie (Moos) Gildemaster finished in third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.41 and was fourth in the 100-meter hurdle prelims with a personal best time of 14.51. In the men's 400-meter hurdles,
Josh Barrows finished in second with a time of 55.29 and two Vikings qualified for the 110-meter hurdle finals tomorrow.
Paul Meloche ran a personal record time of 14.84 in the 110-meter hurdle prelims and
Dylon Van't Hof also qualified with a time of 15.19.
Barrows also took third in the 400-meters with a time of 50.58. In the women's 400-meters,
Emily Tromp,
Sydney Mudgett and
Brooke DeVos went 6-7-8. In the 800-meters,
Carly Rahn took first with a time of 2:15.18 and Tromp finished in seventh. In the men's 800-meters,
Austin Miller raced to a personal record time of 1:56.05 and finished in fifth.
In jumps,
Kendra Ludeman took sixth in the high jump with a personal best mark of 1.52-meters. In the men's triple jump,
Josh Reider took seventh with a mark of 12.55-meters.
In Platteville, Wis., Augustana sent a group of runners to run in the 5k.
Mackenzie Kelly came away with a third place finish in the women's race with a personal best and provisionally qualifying time of 17:00.23.
Alana Sesow (22nd),
Claire Boersma (23rd) and
Courtney Hottovy (24th) were the other top finishers on the women's side. On the men's side,
Wyatt McLeod finished in 13th to lead the Vikings and
Logan Burns (21st) and
Aaron Runge (25th) were other top finishers.
The Vikings return to Sioux City, Iowa tomorrow for the conclusion of the Sioux City Relays with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and running events start at 11 a.m.
