SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Following a three-game road trip, the Augustana women's basketball team is looking forward to being back home in Sioux Falls. The Vikings start the weekend with a tip-off vs. Upper Iowa on Friday at 5:30 p.m., and will be back on the court on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. vs. Winona State. Although the Vikings were not victorious in their last outing, they're still having an impressive year in the Northern Sun Conference. Augustana (14-3, 6-2 NSIC South) remains in 1st in the south division and 3rd overall in the conference.
Midway through the season, Augustana remains one of the most dangerous teams in the league. Augustana leads the conference in points per game (81.2), total rebounds (43.7/game), assists per game (17.5) and steals per game (11.06). Augustana also ranks first nationally in assists and rebounds.
Shelby Selland leads the team with 15.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Nearly a month has passed since the Vikings were victorious over the Peacocks and Warriors on the road.
Against Winona State on Friday, Dec 7, the Vikings ran past Winona State, 78-67. Leading in the Vikings in their win over Winona State was Selland, she finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. She went 6-10 from the field and 5-6 from beyond the three-point land. Rabb finished the game with 11 points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes of actions.
Lynsey Prosser racked up 17 points and five rebounds, while
Abby Hora had 13 points and two rebounds in 28 minutes of action.
The following night, the Vikings traveled to Fayette, Iowa where they picked up their fifth win in a row (86-52), which was fueled by their aggressive defense. The Vikings ripped off 10 steals, forced 20 turnovers, and held Upper Iowa to 16-59 (27.1%) from the field. The balanced Vikings also saw six players score 8 or more points, with Selland leading the way with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks for the second night in a row.
All-time, Augustana is 22-0 vs. Upper Iowa and 27-10 vs. Winona State. Earlier this season, the Vikings walked away with an 86-52 win vs. the Peacocks and a 78-67 win against the Warriors.
