SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's basketball team travels to Wayne, Nebraska, to begin NSIC action on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. inside Rice Auditorium against the Wildcats of Wayne State.
The Game
The Vikings lead the all-time series 24-16 while the Wildcats hold a 10-8 record while playing at home. Augustana is currently on a four-game winning streak against Wayne State after sweeping the Wildcats last year.
The Wildcats (4-1, 0-0 NSIC)
The Wildcats are coming off a 4-1 start to the season. After a season-opening win against Northwest Missouri State, Wayne State fell to Nebraska-Kearney 83-79 to give them its only loss of the young season. The Wildcats followed the loss with wins over Peru State, SD School of Mines and Black Hills State to don a 4-1 record.
Wayne State is led by Erin Norling who averages 23.4 points per contest while grabbing eight rebounds a game. Halley Busse has been money from deep as she leads the team with nine made 3-pointers while also dishing out a team-high 3.2 assists.
As a team, the Wildcats average 77.6 points while allowing 65.6 points per contest. WSC shoots at a 43 percent clip while dishing out 12.8 assists per game and hauling in 41.2 rebounds.
The Vikings (4-0, 0-0 NSIC)
Augustana finished up its nonconference season 4-0 after dominating Bellevue in its final game at the Elmen Center. After a slow start in the first quarter, the Vikings outscored the Bruins 46-11 the next two quarters to take a 64-31 lead into the final frame.
Augustana was led again by freshman Lauren Sees who finished with a game-high 18 points in the win. Sees went an efficient 4-of-6 shooting from deep on the night as well as six steals and six boards. Abby Hora finished with 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field. Van Veldhuizen and Vishe' Rabb chipped in with nine points apiece.
On the season, the Vikings are led by Abby Hora with 15.8 points per contest while Sees and Vishe' Rabb average 13.8 and 11.8 points. Hana Metoxen leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game and Camryn Hay has a team-high 1.5 blocks per game.
As a team, Augustana averages 78.8 points per contest and allow 56.5 points. The Vikings rank 14th in the nation and first in the NSIC in blocked shots per game. As a team, the Vikings shoot at a 40 percent clip from the field and 33 percent from deep.
One Last Thing
Augustana ranks in the top-five in the NSIC in scoring, 3-point defense, turnover margin and steals per game. The Vikings rank 11th in the nation in turnover margin and 14th in the nation in block shots.
