Vikings 800-Yard Freestyle Relay Takes Home First Place

Augustana remains in third place after 15 events

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- With 422.5 points, the Augustana women's swim team stays in the top three after 15 events on Friday at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Championships at the Midco Aquatic Center.

Minnesota State leads after day three with 634 points, St. Cloud State sits in second place with 619.5 points, Augustana stays in third with 422.5 points and Sioux Falls and U-Mary round out the top-five.

Augustana took home it's first gold medal of the 2019 NSIC Swim and Dive Championships after the 800-yard Freestyle Relay 'A' team finished with a school record time of 7:37.99 to beat out Minnesota State for first place. The Vikings improved 3.07 seconds from their seed time of 7:41.06. The 'A' team was made up of Emma Miller, Taylor Beagle, Kelsey Gilbert and Destini Oehlertz.

The 800-yard Freestyle Relay 'B' team finished in ninth place with a time of 7:55.69 improving their seed time by nearly seven seconds. The 'B' team was comprised of Micah Hudlet, Kamryn Robarge, Linzie Kreizel and Hannah Oeltjen.

The Vikings placed three in the top-10 in the 500-yard Freestyle and two in the top three. Beagle placed second with a time of 5:01.99, Miller finished just behind Beagle in third place with a time of 5:03.27 and Gilbert finished in seventh with a time of 5:07.70.

In the 100-yard Backstroke, Oehlertz finished with a time of 57.04 for seventh place and junior Jojo Lohner also placed ninth with a time of 57.04. Oehlertz broke the school record in the 100-yard Backstroke during prelims with a time of 56.97. 

Hudlet placed fifth with a new school record time of 1:05.20 in the 100-yard Breastroke which beat her prelims time by 0.72 seconds.

Over in the 200-yard Butterfly, Abigail Magee took fifth with a time of 2:08.47 which beat her prelims time of 2:09.73 by 1.26 seconds.

The final day will start with trials at 10 a.m. and conclude with finals at 6 p.m. Saturday will have the 1650 Freestyle, the 100 Individual Medley, the 100 Freestyle, the 200 Backstroke, the 200 Breaststroke, the three-meter diving, and the 400-Freestyle Relay. Individual awards and team champion will be presented at the conclusion of all the events on Saturday.
