SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Fresh off an impressive win at home over SMSU, the No. 22 Augustana Swimming team hits the road for the final time in the regular season. The Vikings square up with the University of Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday afternoon, with the swim portion of the event set to start at 1 p.m. The dual takes place at Kearney High School.
Following this weekend's action, Augustana will compete in the 2020 NSIC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship, which runs February 12-15 at the BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center in Bismarck, North Dakota.
The Vikings
In its fourth year as a program, 2019-20 is proving to be one of the best seasons for Augustana Swimming. For the first time in program history, the Vikings entered the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top-25, checking in at No. 22 with 23 points. The Vikings are coming off a 199-57 dual win over Southwest Minnesota State and hold a 5-4 mark in dual meets this season. Overall, Augustana took home first in 13 of the 14 events vs. SMSU.
Following the Vikings most recent action with the Mustangs, junior
Taylor Beagle was named the NSIC's Swimmer of the Week. She claimed two of the Vikings' 11 individual event victories against SMSU to earn the first weekly honor of her career. This honor marks the second of the season for the team, as
Destini Oehlertz earned the honor in October.
The Opponent
The Lopers have competed in seven events, with their top finish being 4th place at the UNK invite. Most recently, UNK tallied 397 points to place fifth out of nine teams at the annual Grinnell College Invite in Iowa
Swimmer To Watch
One of the quickest swimmers on the team, keep on eye on Sophomore
Rebecca Schmidt. Last week in the 50-freestyle, the Minnesota native took home first-place with a time of 26.01. Moving up the 100-yard freestyle, Schmidt finished second in a time of 57.35.
