SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's basketball continues action in the NSIC/Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament Sunday at 8 p.m. when it faces St. Cloud State inside the Sanford Pentagon.
The Game
It's a rematch the Vikings are looking forward to. On Feb. 8, Augustana let a 71-67 game slip away from it in a loss at St. Cloud State. This time, the Vikings face the Huskies in their own city and regular-season home venue.
The winner will move on to face the winner of the Sioux Falls and Winona State contest slated to begin at 5:30 Sunday night.
The Huskies
St. Cloud State is in the quarterfinals after topping Wayne State in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament, 75-62. The win is the 20
th on the season for SCSU, who owns a 20-7 overall record and finished league play at 16-6 earning the NSIC North Division second seed. In the first round win, Madelin Dammann totaled a game-high 20 points as four Huskies in all reached double-digit scoring.
For the season, Dammann is the Huskies leading scorer at 13.7 points per game. She is joined by four others in double digits by Tori Wortz, Nikki Kilboten, Katrina Theis and Brehna Evans. Kilboten is the leading rebounder with 7.4 rebounds per game.
The Vikings
Augustana is in the quarterfinals after routing Bemidji State, 75-56. The Vikings were led by
Hannah Mitby's 17 points and 13 points from
Janelle Shiffler. The Vikings were shooting 59.1 percent from the field through the first three quarters and held a lead as large as 26 points.
Abby Hora leads the team in scoring for the season with 12.2 points per outing while Mitby has reached the double-digit plateau for the first time all season at 10.3 points per game. The NSIC Defensive Player of the Year,
Hana Beyer, is the squad's leading rebounder with 5.5 per game while she also leads the NSIC with 2.2 steals per game.
One Last Thing
Augustana has advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NSIC Tournament every year since the creation of the 16-team bracket prior to the 2012-13 season. The Vikings have twice won the conference tournament in its current look, last coming in 2018.
