ABERDEEN, S.D. -- The Augustana track & field teams had a successful Sunday at the Northern State Invite in Aberdeen, South Dakota, with 10 Vikings achieving first place finishes.
NSIC Field Preseason Athlete of the year Elizabeth Schaefer made her season debut winning the high jump with a leap of 5-5 while also getting second in the shot put with a heave of 36-11.75.
Tyl Woelber won the pole vault in 13-1 and claimed third place in the shot put with a throw of 39-11.25.
The 800m was a strong event for the Vikings with junior Noah Melton winning the men's side in 1:58.60 and senior Sydney Mudgett winning the women's in 2:24.84.
Other success for the Vikings came in the field events with sophomore Isaiah Morin-Baxter winning the men's high jump and senior Luke Fritsch winning the triple jump. On the women's side, freshman Samantha Sundby won the triple jump with a leap of 34-10.25
Other winners of the day were sophomore Lawrence Lokonobei won the 55m hurdles in a time of 7.78, senior Selin Dikmen winning the 55m dash coming through the line in 7.44 and junior Kaitlyn Mulder winning the 400m in a time of 1:01.34.
The Augustana track & field teams return to action next week going to Fargo, North Dakota, for the Bison Open on Friday.
