BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The Augustana track & field teams opened up their seasons at the SDSU Holiday Invite in Brookings, South Dakota, on Friday night.
In the women's 60m dash, Grayce Alder (8.03) and Kaly Banks (8.41) both ran personal bests while Ella Heinitz (7.97) and Kaja Salemonsen (8.48) had their collegiate debuts.
Heinitz and Adler's times advanced them to the finals where they placed 10th and 13th, respectively.Â
Freshman Gavin Fischer made his collegiate debut, placing fourth in the 60m to qualify for the finals in a time of 7.12.
Matthew Schoessow placed sixth in the 600m in a time of 1:23.80.
Lawrence Lokonobei placed fourth in the 60m-hurdle finals in a time of 8.28. He ran an 8.25 in the preliminary round to qualify for the finals.
Augustana had eighth-place finishes for both the men and women in the 400m. Kaitlyn Mulder ran a time of 1:01.18 while Jed Dooyema ran 51.79.
Two Vikings from the freshmen class had strong showings in the 300m. Andrew Martens placed second running a time of 36.19, Tyler Sellin was close behind placing fourth in 38.04.
While a good contingent of the Vikings were competing at the SDSU Holiday Invite, Henry Klitzke made the trip to Allendale, Michigan, to compete in the 5,000m at the GVSU Holiday Open. Klitzke finished ninth in his heat, running a time of 14:36.69, just three seconds from an NCAA qualifying mark.

The Vikings will take some time off from competing before opening the season back up on January 14 at the Minnesota State Invitational.Â
