MANKATO, Minn. -- The NSIC Track and Field Championships kicked off Thursday with the men's heptathlon in Mankato, Minn. 

Four Vikings competed on the first day in junior Tyl Woelber and the freshmen trio Muse Abdi, Mathias Kollberg and Jonathan Sikel. 

In the first event of the session, the 60m dash, the four Vikings swept the first four spots with Abdi claiming first place in 7.16 good for 826 points.

In the second event, the long jump, Woelber claimed victory in a leap of 22-01.75 granting him 755 points. 

Woelber kept momentum heading into the shot put, winning with a heave and new personal best of 42-09.25 for 670 points. 

Rounding out session one was the high jump, Woelber placed first in the event with a jump of 6-06.75 for 803 points.

The Vikings currently have the top spot secured with Woelber at 3,027 points, Kollberg is in third place with 2,729, Abdi is in 2,652 and Sikel in seventh place with 2,447 points. 

The Heptathlon and session two will continue tomorrow morning starting at 8 a.m. with the 60m hurdles. The afternoon session will start at 1 p.m.
