NEW ORLEANS – Augustana's
Greg Binstock has been named the USTFCCCA Men's Assistant Coach of the Year for the Central Region the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Announced Friday.
Binstock, who was also named the NSIC Men's Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year, mentored four groups of top-5 event squad regional rankings in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, triple jump and heptathlon. His leading athlete was
Tyl Woelber, the high-point performer at the NSIC Championships.
"Coach Binstock is one of the best coaches I have ever worked with," Augustana head coach
Tracy Hellman said. "This award is a testament to not only his character, but his work ethic to help our athletes succeed.
"As I have said before, the success of a program is having good people who believe in the vision of what we are doing. Greg embodies this and I'm very happy for his recognition."
In addition to Woelber, Binstock's event groups accounted for 76 total points at the NSIC Championships and coached a pair of national qualifiers in
Lawrence Lokonobei and Woelber.
The Vikings begin action at the NCAA Division II National Championships on March 11 in Birmingham, Alabama.
