Carter Howell Named NSIC Player of the Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- For the third-consecutive week, the Augustana baseball team is taking home NSIC Player of the Week honors. This time, it's sophomore outfielder Carter Howell.

Howell, a native of Moorhead, Minnesota, went 8-for-18 (a .444 clip) with four runs scored, six RBIs, a double, a triple, two homers, two walks and two steals in the Vikings five conference games last week in which they went 4-1.

While incredibly impressive, those kinds of numbers are starting to become the norm for Howell, as his 2021 campaign is starting to become one for the ages.

The sophomore leads the NSIC in batting average (.475), hits (48), runs scored (37), total bases (78) and OBP% (.550). His power numbers are also off the charts as he cracks the top-ten NSIC list in doubles, triples and homers. On the basepaths, Howell is tied for second in the NSIC in stolen bases with 14.

Howell and the rest of the Vikings return to the diamond Wednesday afternoon when they will host a doubleheader against crosstown-rival Sioux Falls at Karras Park Home of Ronken Field. Game one's first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
