Augustana Track Men’s and Women’s DMR Claim Victory at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Augustana track team wouldn't be denied Drake Relay titles on the third and final day of the Drake Relays held in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday. 

The day started with the women's distance medley where Augustana's relay of Patty Jo English, Sydney Mudgett, Meagan Schenk and Nicolette Schmidt claimed victory in a time of 11:53.76, besting the field by almost three seconds. Their time is No. 6 on Augustana's all-time list.

The distance medley relay men followed suit with a victory of their own. The distance medley relay of Evan Johnson, Ryan Sully, Teigen Lindner and Austin Miller won the event running a time of 10:07.80.

The distance medley relays made the second and third victory of the weekend with the first coming in the opening night of the Drake Relays where Alec Kray won the seeded men's 5,000m. 

"The coaching staff is very pleased with our results at the prestigious Drake Relays," Augustana head coach Tracy Hellman said. "Our program is always excited for the excitement and challenge that Drake Relays presents. 

"Winning a relay is always a special thing for our program and it was great to have an opportunity to add to our relay success history."  

Other performances of the day were In the 100m-hurdles where senior Selin Dikmen placed fifth running a time of 14.66. Melik Davis ran a new personal-best time in the 200m clocking in at 22.06 to place seventh in the event. In the women's high jump, Mearah Miedema tied for third jumping 5-5.

Augustana returns to action next week with the NSIC Outdoor Challenge hosted by Minnesota State and the Wildcat Invite in Wayne, Nebraska. Both meets will be taking place Saturday.
