DULUTH, Minn. -- The Augustana track & field teams completed day one of the NSIC Outdoor Championships held in Duluth, Minnesota, with the top-two spots in the decathlon through five events.
Tyl Woelber led the way with a point total of 3,897 points. Freshman Mathias Kollberg holds the second spot with a point total of 3,514 points. Woelber accounted for three first-place finishes while Kollberg achieved wins in the other two events on the first day of competition.
In the heptathlon, freshman Noa Marteau currently sits in 13th place after four events.
The multi events started with Woelber and Kollberg competing in the 100m where they both ran personal bests and took the first two spots. Kollberg won the event in a time of 11.22 with Woelber just behind him in 11.24 giving the Vikings points of 812 and 808, respectively.
Starting off the heptathlon for the Vikings were Elizabeth Schaefer and Marteau in the 100m-hurdles. Schaefer won the event in a new personal-best 14.59 good for 897 points. Marteau also ran a new personal-best placing fourth in a time of 15.28.
In the second event of the day for the decathletes, Kollberg won his second event of the day in the long jump, winning with a jump of 22-10.50 granting him 807 points. Woelber claimed his second runner-up performance of the day scoring 792 points with a jump of 22-8.
In the second event of the day for the heptathletes, both Vikings Schaefer and Marteau jumped 4-8 to secure 534 points.
The third event of the decathlon brought another first place for the Vikings with Woelber throwing 40-10.50 for 634 points. Kollberg placed ninth with a throw of 30-5.75.
Marteau placed 21st in the third event of the day for her scoring 417 points with her shotput heave of 27-01.75. Schaefer withdrew from the competition due to an injury.
The decathlete duo had high performances in the fourth event of the decathlon with Woelber winning the high jump securing 906 points with a jump of 6-11.25, Kollberg tied for third with a leap of 6-2.75 good for 714 points.
Closing out the heptathlon for the day was the fourth event where Marteau won the 200m in a time of 26.76 to claim 732 points.
The multi men ended their day with a 1-2 finish in the 400m with Woelber running 51.26 with Kollberg close behind in 51.70 the scores for those times are 757 and 738, respectively.

The Vikings return for day two of the NSIC Outdoor Championships tomorrow morning starting with the 10,000m slated for a 10 a.m. start, field events will start at 10:45 a.m.
