SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana swimming & diving teams competed against NSIC and DIvision I competition at the Coyote Extravaganza hosted by South Dakota this weekend.
The No. 8 Viking women took down NSIC competition as well as Division I opponents this weekend in wins against St. Cloud State, St. Thomas, South Dakota, and South Dakota State. In total, the Augustana women finished 7-2 with a perfect 4-0 dual record on the second day of competition. Meanwhile the Viking men fell to highly competitive teams both days.
"This weekend was a very hard weekend of racing," said head coach Lindsie Micko. "It was great preparation for our mid-season meet in a couple weeks against quality competition.
"We learned how to fight when things didn't come easily."
Augustana saw competitive wins in their freestyle relay squads. The Vikings placed first in the 400 free relay with a finals time of 3:32.39. The group of Kamryn Robarge, Meesha Montgomery, Angelina Chan, and Bryn Greenwaldt squashed all competitors of the event with a .54 second margin ahead of the second place finishers of South Dakota.Â
Robarge, Greenwaldt, Chan, and Nesrine Jelliti also took first in the 200 medley relay finishing with a finals time of 1:45.42 with over two seconds to spare before the event's runner up of Northern Iowa.
Greenwaldt saw success in the 50 free taking first place the first day of the meet with a finals time of 23:55 and took hold of second place after swimming in a time of 23.80 just .18 seconds short of the first place finisher.Â
For the men, the Vikings saw Steven Asmus, a sophomore, finish in fourth in the mile swimming in a finals time of 17:07.82 finishing ahead of all NSIC competition.Â
The men were also highlighted by sophomore Pedro Borin. Borin took home a first place finish in the 200 butterfly with a finals time of 1:55.27. He also saw a successful finish in the 200 free coming in fourth place with a time of 1:46.74 to wrap up the second day of the meet.
Augustana newcomer Clare Duplissis was the top diver for the Vikings this weekend finishing ahead of her fellow teammates in the one meter dive with an 11th place finish with a score of 206.35.Â
