UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich – The Augustana men's swimming & diving team saw a day highlighted with personal-best times in its GLIAC Championship debut in University Center, Michigan, Friday. The day would consist of three Vikings and one relay team setting personal best times.
"We had a great first day of swimming for our guys," said Vikings head coach Lindsie Micko. " We had many personal-best times today with three scoring individual points. We have set ourselves up well for day two."
Mason Kauffeld started off the day with a preliminary time of 1:55.53 in the 200 IM placing 16th and qualifying for the finals. In the finals, he moved up two places to 14th with a time of 1:54.81 which is a new personal best for him.
The Vikings would also see scoring times in the finals of the 1000 free with Kacper Mayerberg placing 13th in a time of 9:46.04 and Aidan McCusker placing 15th with a personal best time of 9:45.19.
Earlier in the day, during the preliminaries, Mayerberg would set his personal best in the 1000 free with a time of 9.45.19.
Augustana's 200 IM relay team, consisting of Jackson Dirks, Kauffeld, Steven Asmus, and Xander Smith, would also set a personal best time of 1:35.51.
In the final relay of the night, the Vikings 200 free relay team, consisting of Smith, Brady Monson, Asmus, and Evan Bell, posted a time of 1:27.09 in the finals. They would have a personal best time of 1:26.93 in the preliminaries earlier in the day.
The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow in day two of the GLIAC Championships beginning at 9:00 a.m. and finals beginning at 4:30 p.m. Action can be followed at GoAugie.com/Live.
