LAKELAND, Fla.—Augustana baseball marked its first series sweep of the season, defeating the Florida Southern Mocs on Sunday, 6-3. The Vikings finish the series 3-0 after taking down the Mocs in Saturday's doubleheader. In all three matchups, Augustana came from behind to earn the victories.
Augustana moves to 5-1 on the season as Florida Southern falls to 10-9.Â
Jed Schmidt was the Vikings starter on the mound, tossing 5.2 innings, facing 26 batters and recording three strikeouts. Evan Furst took over for Schmidt and pitched the final 3.1 innings, also striking out three to earn the save.
Florida Southern got on the board early with a run in the second inning.Â
The Vikings answered in the fourth inning when Jaxon Rosencranz hit a double to left center, scoring Will Olson, who advanced to third on an error by the Mocs. Jack Hines connected on his first-career home run, allowing Rosencranz to score and improving AU's lead to 3-1.Â
The Mocs shortened the lead to one run after a ground ball to third let FSC score to close out the fourth inning.Â
Carter Howell sent Ben Ihrke home in the top of the sixth inning for Augustana to push its lead over Florida Southern. The Mocs answered with a single to right field to score their final run of the game.Â
After three scoreless innings, Rosencranz hit a bomb to left field and tallied his second RBI of the game. The Vikings closed off the scoring in the ninth after Howell singled to left field and Hines scored the sixth run.
Rosencranz and Hines led the team in the batting category, recording two hits and two RBI each. Olson and Jordan Barth also logged two hits in the nine-inning contest. In total, seven players for the Vikings had hits on Sunday.

Augustana travels northeast to Orlando for its annual spring trip and will play six total games throughout the week. The Vikings take the field against Grand Valley State on Monday at 4 p.m.
