Viking Baseball Hosts Golden Bears for NSIC Series

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--Augustana baseball will host the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears for a three-game series at Ronken Field on Sunday and Monday. First pitch for Sunday's doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m. while Monday's single game has a noon start.

The Golden Bears

Concordia-St. Paul is 15-20 overall and hold a conference record of 9-14. The Golden Bears most recently fell to NSIC opponent Minnesota State in two games with the Mavericks taking game one 6-4 and game two 11-0 in seven innings. 

Nick Thimsen, Jarod Wandersee and Jack Young lead the Golden Bears in hits with Thimsen's 33 hits finding the top spot. Wandersee and Young tie for second in the lineup with 32 hits each. Wandersee also has the second-highest batting average on the team at .344.

On the mound, CSP sees senior Luke DeGrammont lead the team with 38 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.42. DeGrammont has appeared in eight games while making seven starts, pitched 44.2 innings and holds a 3-2 record.

The Vikings

Augustana defeated Winona State on Thursday in an NSIC doubleheader to improve to 31-7-1 overall and 21-4 in NSIC play. The Vikings closed in on the Warriors in game one to pick up the 3-2 win. In game two, the bats were alive and AU earned the 9-1 victory.

Carter Howell finds the spot at the top of the hits category for Augustana with 56. Howell also leads with a batting average of .397 and has played in all 39 games for the Vikings while making all 39 starts. Sixteen players for the Vikings have logged at least two RBI in Augustana's 39 games. 

Seth Miller and Tanner Brown have each reached five wins this season. Tanner Brown, Augustana's career strikeout leader, leads the Vikings on the mound with 68 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.38.

One More Thing

Jordan Barth has recorded 62 doubles in his career at Augustana, just four shy of breaking the career doubles record.
