AU Baseball Hosts Upper Iowa in Mid-Week Doubleheader

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--Augustana baseball hosts the Upper Iowa Peacocks for a doubleheader on Wednesday at Ronken Field. First pitch is slated for 1:30 p.m.

The Peacocks

Upper Iowa holds an overall record of 9-24 and a conference record of 7-15. The Peacocks most recently hosted the Winona State Warriors, falling in two games of the three-game series. The third game of the series was canceled. 

Tanner Stein has the highest batting average on the roster at .328. Stein has logged 21 hits and appeared in 24 games while making 22 starts. Ryan Hull leads the Peacocks with 33 hits and has a batting average of .264. The leader in RBI for UIU is Samuel Grushkin with 23.

On the mound, Nicholas Pica has the lowest ERA at 2.18 and has appeared in nine games while making three starts. Colin Lacey is the Peacocks' leader in strikeouts with 41. Lacey's ERA is 3.13 and he has made eight starts this season. 

The Vikings

Augustana holds a record of 34-7-1 overall and 24-4 in the NSIC. The Vikings swept Concordia-St.Paul in three games on Sunday and Monday, scoring a total of 33 runs while holding the Golden Bears to just five runs in the series.

Carter Howell finds the spot at the top of the hits category for Augustana with 60. Howell also leads with a batting average of .400 and has played in all 42 games for the Vikings while making all 42 starts. Howell has recorded 52 RBI and 10 home runs this season. Will Olson follows closely behind Howell with 50 hits and a batting average of .385.

Tanner Brown holds a 6-0 record on the mound, just three wins shy of breaking the career pitching wins record. Brown, Augustana's career strikeout leader, leads the Vikings with 76 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.58. Ryan Jares, Caleb Saari and Seth Miller have each reached five wins this season.

One More Thing

Jordan Barth has recorded 63 doubles in his career at Augustana, three away from breaking the career doubles record. Barth has also logged 197 career RBI, just 15 RBI from breaking the career RBI record.

Up Next

The Vikings will play a three-game series against Sioux Falls at Ronken Field on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's contest is slated for 2 p.m. and it will be Senior Day and Parent's Day for the team.
