Augustana Baseball Hosts Sioux Falls for Senior and Parent’s Day

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--The Augustana baseball team will host the Sioux Falls Cougars in a three-game series at Ronken Field on Saturday and Sunday. The team will celebrate the seniors and parents in between games on Saturday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

The Cougars

Sioux Falls is 24-21 overall and holds a conference record of 16-14. The Cougars find a spot at No. 5 in the conference, with series wins over five conference opponents. Most recently, USF lost in both games of a doubleheader against Minnesota State, totaling seven runs behind MSU's 24 runs.

At the plate, Noah Christenson leads the Cougars in hits (57) and RBI (38) while also holding the highest batting average at .343. He has started all 45 games that USF has played this season. 

Matt Graham has spent the most innings on the mound for the Cougars with 53.2. Graham holds a record of 4-4 and has made nine starts with an ERA of 5.53. Andrew Maslowski has also started nine games for USF. Maslowski's record is 4-3 and his ERA is 5.29.

The Vikings

Augustana holds an overall record of 36-7-1 and an NSIC record of 26-4. The Vikings are ranked at No. 20 in the NCBWA Top-25 Poll and hold a spot at No. 3 in the initial Central Regional Poll. Augustana defeated the Upper Iowa Peacocks in a doubleheader at Ronken Field on Wednesday, tallying 29 runs in two games.

Carter Howell, reigning NSIC Player of the Week, finds the spot at the top of the hits category for Augustana with 67. Howell also leads with a batting average of .421 and has started in all 44 games for the Vikings. He has recorded 59 RBI and 11 home runs this season. Will Olson follows closely behind Howell with 56 hits and a batting average of .409.

Tanner Brown holds a 6-0 record on the mound, just three wins shy of breaking the career pitching wins record. Brown, Augustana's career strikeout leader, leads the Vikings with 76 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.58. Seth Miller is 6-1 with an ERA of 2.87. Ryan Jares, Caleb Saari and Jed Schmidt have each reached five wins this season.

One More Thing

Jordan Barth has tied the career doubles record at 65 with two doubles against Upper Iowa. Barth has also logged 199 career RBI, just 13 RBI from breaking the career RBI record.

The Vikings end the regular season with a three-game series at Minnesota State on May 6-7. The first game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on May 6.
