ALLENDALE, Mich. – Augustana track & field turned out an All-America performance with Ryan Hartman placing eighth in the men's 3,000m steeplechase on the second day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Hartman was a part of a new meet record set in the 3,000m steeplechase. From the gun, Hartman got in a good position, being in the fifth spot through 200m. The first complete 400m was his fastest lap, as the leaders pushed a fast pace early, with Hartman making the circuit in 1:08.63. As the next mile progressed, Hartman remained around 4:40 mile pace to be ninth amongst the field. The early pace began to wear on the field as Hartman moved up two spots over the next 400m. Hartman kicked into gear in the final 400m to hold the seventh-place position and earn his first piece of hardware in the outdoor season.
Hartman's racing is not over as he will be in the 5,000m final on Saturday slated for 4 p.m.
Tyl Woelber started the day for the Vikings in the high jump. The Pipestone, Minnesota, native cleared the starting height of 6-7.50 on his second attempt. On his third attempt, he cleared 6-9.50, before bowing out at the next height to place 13th overall.
Shortly after the men's high jump started, Kaly Banks took to the triple jump runway. In her first NCAA Championships, the Cannon Falls, Minnesota, native took 15th-place. Her best jump came on her third attempt, with a leap of 39-7.25.
Back on the track, Cami Streff ran in the third heat of the women's 800m preliminary round. The leaders covered the first 400m in just over sixty seconds, with the Streff in the chase pack making the first circuit in 1:02.80 in sixth-place. She closed the second lap in 1:12, to drop two spots, finishing 22nd overall.
The Vikings return for the final day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Woelber starts the day off with the javelin throw slated for 9:30 a.m.
