PEMBROKE, N.C. – Augustana baseball's Tanner Brown has earned NCBWA All-America honors, announced Thursday afternoon by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Brown was named to the NCBWA Division II Second -Team All-America. Carter Howell earned NCBWA Honorable Mention All-America honors.
The NCBWA All-Region teams were voted on by members of the organization's regional committees, comprised of sports information directors and athletic communications specialists. Each First-Team member automatically advanced to the All-America ballot.
Tanner Brown
Brown earns NCBWA Second-Team All-America honors for the first time in his career as a Viking. He was named to the All-Region First Team for the first time in his career during the 2022 season. Also named the 2022 NSIC Pitcher of the Year, he leads Augustana as the all-time strikeout leader with 301.
Brown holds a record of 9-1 in 2022. In 87.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 117 hitters and has an ERA of 2.89. With his 25th career win against Central Missouri, Brown became the leader in career pitching wins at Augustana. His career record is 25-3.
Brown has been named the NSIC Pitcher of the Week three times in his career, with the most recent honor coming after the win over Bemidji State which saw Brown break the career strikeout record.
Carter Howell
Howell earns NCBWA All-America honors for the first time in his career. The senior was named to the NCBWA All-Region First-Team previously this year. Last year, Howell earned NCBWA All-Region Second-Team honors. In 2022, he started in all 61 games this season and hit .396 with 68 runs scored, 91 hits, 11 doubles, three triples, 17 home runs and 74 RBI.
Howell stole 23 bases in 25 attempts and notched 91 hits. He also has a .691 SLG% and a .447 OB%.
