BROOKINGS, S.D. – Augustana track and field opened up its indoor season with the SDSU Holiday Open & Multi on Friday afternoon. A school record was broken by Ella Heintiz in the 300m with a time of 40.97.

The Vikings saw top-five performances in multiple events, highlighted by national qualifying marks for two Vikings.

"It was a great opening meet for our teams at the SDSU pre-season open. We had some great marks and an impressive start to the 2023-24 indoor track season. Highlighting our performances was Ella Heinitz setting our school record in the 300M.  I also thought our women had a great opener. Now we reset and get ready for the full indoor season after the Christmas break."

Kaja Salemonsen topped the podium in the women's triple jump as she hit a mark of 11.76m. Salemonsen's jump provoed for the NCAA nationals. The junior set a personal record for indoors and now sits second all time in Augustana history in the women's triple jump.

Andrew Martens provoed for the NCAA nationals after running to a mark of 7.99 in the men's 60m hurdles prelims. Marten followed up his impressive feat with a second place finish in the 60m hurdle finals.

Ethan Boyens ran a 1:21.75 open 600m and placed third to secure six points on the men's side.

Jayda Becker topped the podium in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.45 meters. The junior edged out multiple division I jumpers.
