SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--The Augustana baseball team heads to St. George, Kansas, this weekend for a four-game series against Emporia State. The Vikings start the series with a doubleheader on Saturday slated for noon. On Sunday, the teams are scheduled to play another doubleheader with a noon start time. All four games will take place at Rock Creek High School.

The Hornets
Emporia State enters the series with a record of 3-4. The Hornets finished the 2022 season in the opening round of the MIAA tournament and held an overall record of 21-31. 

Jake Bucovetsky and Andrew Rantz lead the Hornets with eight hits and two doubles each. Bucovetsky also has a batting average of .333. 

On the mound, Noah Geekie and Cade Barton have tossed 10 innings each. Greg Ross has recorded 15 strikeouts and holds a 1-0 record in 2023. 

The Vikings
Augustana holds a record of 1-4 this season. The Vikings opened 2023 with a five-game series at Hawai'i Hilo and saw a victory in the final game. 

On the mound, Caleb Kranz pitched 6.2 total innings in Augustana's series. He struck out 11 batters in two appearances. Freshman Jason Fink spent an inning on the mound in Hawaii and recorded the first strikeout of his collegiate career. 

Trevor Winterstein logged seven hits and six runs in Augustana's five-game series at Hawai'i Hilo. He made all five starts in the series and held a batting average of .389. Winterstein went 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts and added two doubles.

At the plate, Jack Hines had a batting average of .400. The junior has an on-base percentage of .591 with six hits and five walks. 

Spencer Marenco hit his first home run in an Augustana uniform in AU's 9-6 loss in the third game of the UHH series. 

One Last Thing
The Vikings are 3-3 all-time against the Hornets. Augustana last met Emporia State in February of 2020, splitting the series 2-2.
