Viking Swim & Dive Sees Four Advance to Finals on the Last Day of GLIAC Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Augustana men's swimming & diving squad wrapped up the fourth and final day of the GLIAC Championships in Holland, Michigan, with three broken school records and four finals appearances. Caden Kavanaugh made program history by being the first Augustana diver to advance to the GLIAC finals. Kavanaugh garnered a school record in the one meter dive with a final score of 359.40. 

Two individuals and one relay squad advanced to the finals in today's meet. Aeson Akins was the first to compete in the finals this evening racing in the 200 back Akins touched the wall ina  time of 1:50.77 to record a 13th place finish. His finish was not only just a personal best but also a program record. 

Mason Kauffeld was the third Viking to garner an Augustana school record in today's competition. Kauffeld swam the 200 breast in a time of 2:02.28. The time garnered him an 11th place finish. 

Rounding out both the evening and the GLIAC Championships, was the 400 freestyle relay, raced by Pedro Borin, Xander Smith, Lui Gabriel Pinto and Isaac Rokusek. The quartet saw a seventh place finish with a time of 3:08.92. 

Grand Valley State won the GLIAC Championships with 942 points. The Vikings, in their second year competing, placed seventh with 202 points.

"This was a great way to finish the year," said Augustana head coach Lindsie Micko. "We had three school records set today. With the abundant amount of swimmers and divers that are making it to finals, we have a lot of promise for next year."
