MANKATO, Minn. – The Augustana indoor track & field squad opened the first day of the NSIC Championships with two NSIC Champions and two NSIC All-Conference marks. The DMR for Augustana collected its first NSIC Champion of the day then its second came from Henry Klitzke in the 5000 meter run.Â
"We had a great day one with both squads at the NSIC Championship," said Augustana Director of Track&Field Tracy Hellman. "We got things started with a bang with the women's DMR, setting a conference record while taking home the championship. Nyana Kur breaking the school record in the 60 prelims and Henry Klitzke winning the 5000 were two other highlights. Overall a great start and we are focused and ready for the final day!"
The day began with the women's distance medley relay being named NSIC Champions. The quartet of Mia Salas, Ella Heinitz, Caroline Sudbeck and Patty Jo English crossed the finish line in a time of 11:43.93. The squad shattered the previous NSIC meet record of 11:56.11.Â
Continuing success in the DMR were the Viking men, who garnered an NSIC All-Conference finish in today's race. The squad of Colten Brand, Jonah Breuer, Gavin Fischer and Ryan Hartman collected a second place finish with a time of 9:59.79. Joining in on the record breaking performances, the relay broke the previous NSIC meet record of 10:00.03.Â
Nyanas Kur collected her third school record this season with a time of 7.53 in the preliminaries of the 60 meter dash. The previous program record was 7.59 recorded back in 2019Â by Callie Dewitt.
Finishing up the day for the Vikings was an all conference finish for Ella Bakken in the 5000 meter. Bakken took third place with a time of 17:37.80. Bakken was joined by Klitzke earning his 5000 meter win with a time of 14:47.61 to be named an NSIC Champion.Â
