AU Baseball Sees Series Shift South, Hosts CSP at Ronken Field this Weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--The Augustana baseball team hosts Concordia-St. Paul for a three-game series at Ronken Field Saturday and Sunday. The series gets started with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. On Sunday, the teams face off in the series finale slated for noon. 

The series was originally scheduled to take place in St. Paul, Minnesota, but will now be played at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Scouting the Golden Bears
Concordia-St. Paul holds an overall record of 16-21 and is 12-11 in NSIC play. The Golden Bears sit in the eighth spot in the conference, just above Wayne State. The Golden Bears were last on the field against St. Olaf, falling to the Oles 11-10 in the single game matchup. Kal Brohmer, Noah Juliar, Bryce Nelson and Nick Thimsen have been impactful at the plate for the Golden Bears this season. Brohmer is hitting .375 and has totaled 45 hits, eight doubles and 24 RBI. Juliar has a batting average of .341 with 43 hits and 37 RBI. Nelson leads the team with eight stolen bases and 45 hits. Rounding out the quartet with a batting average of .295, Thimsen has recorded 43 hits and 23 RBI. On the hill, Korey Dahlberg and Jonah Lewis have each made nine starts. Dahlberg leads the pitching staff with 44 strikeouts and has an ERA of 5.32. Lewis has an ERA 3.99 and follows Dahlberg with 40 strikeouts.

The Vikings
Augustana is 34-16 overall in 2023 with an NSIC record of 23-7. The Vikings were last in action against Wayne State, earning the sweep over the Wildcats. AU sits atop the NSIC, edging out Minnesota State in second place. Augustana has successfully stolen 121 bases this season. Leading the charge is Nick Banowetz, who is 25-of-28 on stolen base attempts. Trevor Winterstein is also 25-of-28 and Jack Hines is 17-of-18. At the plate, Hines, Banowetz, Winterstein, and Drey Dirksen have been impressive for the Vikings this season. Hines leads the lineup with a batting average of .371 and has totaled 62 hits, 10 doubles, four triples and 30 RBI. Dirksen tops the team with 15 doubles, 10 home runs and 43 RBI. Following with 11 doubles and two triples is Banowetz, who is hitting .356. Winterstein has a .309 batting average, 60 hits, five doubles, four triples, five home runs and 31 RBI. Seth Miller, a two-time NSIC pitcher of the week in 2023, has amassed 67 strikeouts and has a record of 7-1. Caleb Saari has recorded 62 strikeouts and has a 2.91 ERA, holding a record of 4-2 overall. Caleb Kranz has struck out 72 batters in 2023 to lead the AU pitching staff, has a 5-1 record and has spent 50.2 innings on the mound. Adam Diedrich is second in the nation and leads the Viking pitching staff with 10 saves this season.
