Viking Swimming & Diving Celebrates Seniors with Near Perfect Home Meet

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana swimming & diving teams closed their regular season Friday with a dual on the men's side against Minnesota Morris and a double-dual on the women's side with UMM and Southwest Minnesota State. The Vikings went 3-0 on the evening between the two squads.
 
The Senior Night victories also celebrated four Viking seniors in Mary Holthe, Ruth Huffman, Molly Lienemann and Nicholle Miller.

In the Fast Lane
  • Each gender won every event except for one in the team score rout.
  • Peyton Bartsch claimed a pair of victories, touching the wall in the 50-free in 21.47 seconds while also winning the 100-fly in 53.10.
  • Also with two victories was Jackson Dircks as he won the 100 back in 52.92 and the 500 free in 4:57.99.
  • Anna Tindall saw her name on the top of the leaderboard in two events to lead the women as she clocked in at 1:08.07 in the 100 breast. She then followed with a time of 54.87 in the 100 free to win the event.
  • Aeson Akins started the meet off by singing the Star Spangled Banner and ended the evening by claiming victory in the 200 back. He touched the wall in 1:58.61 for the win.

Off the Boards
  • With 422.45 points on the 3-meter dive, Avery Lommel qualified for the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships. The point total set a school record for 11 dives, and when mixed with her six dives on Oct. 21, she hit the qualification mark.
  • She is officially the first diver in AU history to qualify for the championships.
  • Caden Kavanagh broke the school record for the men on the 3M 11 dives with 402.25 points.
  • In the 1M, Lommel also recorded an NCAA score in the 11 dives with 412 points, a school record.
  • David Binsfeld topped the men's 1M dive with 364.65 points, a school record.
 
Up Next
Friday's meet was the final tune-up for the men's team who competes in the GLIAC Championships Feb. 9-12. The No. 14 women's NSIC Championships are scheduled for Feb. 14-17.
