Augustana Indoor Track & Field Returns to Action in Brookings

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana indoor track & field squads return to action this weekend in Brookings, South Dakota at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational on Saturday. 

Augustana opened up its season back in December at the SDSU Holiday Invitational & Multi where multiple Vikings put up impressive marks. 

Ella Heinitz hit the track strong as she broke the indoor school record in the 300m with a time of 40.97, crushing the previous record of 41.27 set back in 2015. Kaja Salemonsen topped the podium in women's triple jump with a mark of 11.76m. Salemonsen's leap provoed for the NCAA nationals. 

Andrew Martens provoed for the NCAA nationals after running to a time of 7.99 in the men's 60m hurdle prelims. Marten followed up his impressive feat with a second-place finish in the 60m hurdle finals. Ethan Boyens ran a 1:21.75 for a third-place finish in the open 600m. 

Joyda Becker topped the podium in the women's long jump while Tyson Ricker snagged a top-five finish in the men's 3000m. 

Ryan Hartman comes into the weekend after setting a South Dakota Collegiate Record in Indoor 5k with a time of 13:54.58 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University. 

The Vikings travel to Brooking, South Dakota Jan. 26-27 for the SDSU D2 Invitational before making a stop in Lincoln, Nebraska for the Nebraska Frank Sevigne Invite on Feb. 2-3. AU ramps up its trip to Brookings, South Dakota for the SDSU Indoor Classic on Feb. 9-10 before closing out the regular season with the SDSU Last Chance on Feb.16.  NSIC Championships kick off on Feb. 23-24 with the NCAA Championships to follow on March 8-9.
