BROOKINGS, S.D. – Augustana men's and women's track and field competed in the SDSU D2/NAIA Open as multiple Vikings collected first-place finishes en route to a strong overall meet.
Ethan Boyens tallied a first-place finish in the men's 600m run with a time of 1:21.81 as he beat out multiple NSIC foes and two South Dakota State runners.
Lily Juhnke,
Ella Heinitz and
Jennifer Noutsougan collected impressive marks in the women's 60m dash as each Viking qualified for the finals. Juhnke turned on the burners in the finals as she scored a first-place finish with a time of 7.75. Heinitz and Noutsougan rounded out the top six finishers as they crossed the finish line fifth and six, respectively.
Juhnke continued her impressive day with a first-place finish in the women's 200m dash with a time of 25.40.
Kaja Salemonsen topped the podium in the women's triple jump with an NCAA provisional leap of 11.79m. Sammi Sundby joined Salemonsen on the podium with a third place finish with a jump of 10.86m.
Andrew Martens has continued his impressive season with second-place finish in the 60m hurdles. He clocked in at an NCAA provisional time of 8.07 in both the prelims and finals.
Baylee Van Zee found herself in the women's 60m hurdles finals as she collected the seventh-best time in the preliminary heats with a time of 9.64. She then dropped her time to9.53 in the finals while maintaining the seventh-place standing.
A trio of Vikings took part in the women's 600m run as
Caroline Sudbeck finished with a second- place finish with a time of 1:36.67.
Maia Peterson and
Sydnee Serck rounded out the top six with a fifth and sixth-place finish.
Tyson Ricker and
Alex Otten finished in the top-10 with times of 4:22.59 and 4:25.34 in the men's 1 mile run.
Ashley Overgaauw ran to a first-place finish in the women's 1000m run with a time of 3:04.17 and was joined by
Tenley Nelson who secured second with a time of 3:08.70.
Anna Jensen collected points on the women's side with a time of 1:00.50 in the women's 400m dash as she crossed the finish line eighth.
Alex Otten nailed down a fourth-place finish in the men's 1000m run with a time of 2:36.64.
Heinitz, Sudbeck,
Nyanas Kur and
Maia Peterson ripped through the competition to collect a first place finish in the women's 4x400 meter relay with a NCAA provisional time of 3:52.57.
Pentathlon in the Key City
Kylee Sallee and
Maria Pedroso competed in the Mark Schuck Open and Multi on Friday, Jan. 26 in Mankato, Minnesota, as the pair competed in the indoor pentathlon. The duo each collected NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
Sallee collected first place in women's shot put with a toss of 10.58m and sat in the top three in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.37 and long jump with a leap of 5.42m.
Pedroso placed in the top three in two events as she ran to a time of 2:30.77 in the 800m run and jumped to a mark of 1.62m in the high jump.
In all, Pedroso placed third in the event with 3,451 points while Sallee totaled 3,330 points in fourth.
