SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana women's basketball head coach Nate Vogel has announced the hiring of Alyssia Martinez as an assistant coach.
Martinez returns to Augustana following a pair of seasons as the Director of Graphic Design/Video and Development Liaison for the Air Force Academy women's basketball team. While at Air Force, she assisted in player development, organization of travel logistics and clipped game and practice footage for film sessions among many tasks.
"Alyssia is a great addition to our staff," said Vogel. "Al is a former player of mine when I was an assistant at Black Hills State. We've kept in touch as she has risen through the ranks of the women's college basketball coaching ranks and am so excited to reunite with her here at Augustana. She was at BHSU when Coach Szabla was a graduate assistant there so we already have built in chemistry with our staff."
Martinez spent the 2021-22 academic year as an Operations and Marketing Graduate Assistant at Augustana University. For the Vikings, Martinez's duties included graphic design, event management, and marketing. Prior to her time at Augustana University, Martinez saw action in 110 games over five seasons as a guard at Black Hills State University. The Highlands Ranch, Colorado, native was a two-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic Honor Roll selection, having scored 429 career points.
Martinez earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Black Hills State in 2021 before receiving a Master's Degree in Sports Administration and Leadership from Augustana in May of 2024.
