Greenwaldt, 200 Medley Relay Shatter NSIC Records, Vikings Lead After Day One of the NSIC Championships

FARGO, N.D. – Bryn Greenwaldt broke a program record in the 50 free prelim while shattering conference records in the 50 free and the 200 medley relay on Wednesday, the opening day of the NSIC Championships at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, North Dakota. The Vikings, the two-time defending champions, are in first place with 242.5 points.

Greenwaldt turned heads in the prelims Wednesday morning, breaking the program and NSIC Championships record while moving into the top three in DII history with a 50 free time of 22.09. She cruised to an NSIC championship on Wednesday night, taking the race in 22.28.

Finishing with all-conference honors in second place was Makoa Montgomery, whose B-cut time of 23.43 was 0.26 seconds quicker than third place. Angelina Chan finished in fifth place with a time of 23.81 and Sofia Hein rounded out the scorers for AU with a time of 24.32 to place 13th in the B final.

The Vikings' 200 medley relay team opened the night with dominance, finishing with an NCAA Provisional, program and NSIC record 1:40.17 to claim the first victory of the week. The performance was mastered by leadoff Greenwaldt, second swimmer Nesrine Jelliti, Chan third and closer Makoa Montgomery

Placing first in the B final in the medley relay was the Viking team of Ella Ward-Zeller, Jisella Haskamp, Abby Nelson and Sofia Hein. Their time of 1:44.91 gave AU 20 points, a time that would have placed them fourth in the A Final.

Three Vikings found themselves in the top four of the 200 IM while four Vikings scored points. Jelliti placed runner up in the 200 IM as she touched the wall in 2:06.17 to garner 17 points for the Vikings. In the same event, Ava Brogren placed third in 2:06.31 and Meesha Montgomery fourth in 2:06.55 to score 16 and 15 points, respectively. In the B Final, Anna Tindall clocked in at 2:09.12 to place 15th and earn two points for the Vikings.

The 1,000 free saw Augustana score a pair of swimmers led by Maija Kangas with a time of 10:43.36 to finish in 10th place. Libby Breckon also added points when she placed 14th in 10:56.71.

Augustana's 242.5 points are ahead of second place Minnesota State who owns 234.0 points through five events.
