Diving and Relay Excellence Keep Vikings in Front at the NSIC Women's Swimming & Diving Championships

FARGO, N.D. - The Vikings claimed the top two spots in the 1m dive and the 400 medley relay added another relay victory to the week to boost the Augustana women's swimming & diving team through day two of the NSIC Championships. The Vikings are in first place with 436.5 points through the second day at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, North Dakota.

Avery Lommel claimed her second consecutive NSIC Title in the 1m, finishing the 11 dive final with an NCAA qualifying score of 423.05. Joining her near the top with an incredible performance was Kate Robbins. 

The senior from Victoria, Minn., wowed the crowd with 409.75 points to hit a qualifying score and give AU a combined 37 points in the diving portion of the night. 

To cap off the night, Bryn Greenwaldt, Nesrine Jelliti, Angelina Chan and Meesha Montgomery reclaimed their spot atop the NSIC, winning the A final with a school, conference and qualifying time of 3:42.29, over five seconds faster than second place. 

Ella Ward-Zeller, Jisella Haskamp, Gracin Larson and Maija Kangas did their part in the B final, closing with a time of 3:52.32 to finish second in the heat and earn 16 points. 

Chan opened the night with All-NSIC honors in the 100 fly, placing third with a time of 56.62. Nesrine Jelliti was dominant in the B final, recording the second fastest final time at 56.37 to add nine points to the Viking total. 

Also scoring was Abby Nelson, whose 58.25 seconds was good for fifth in the B Final, added four points. 

Three more Vikings earned points in the 400 IM, led by Maija Kangas. Kangas qualified for the A final and took fifth place with a time of 4:33.48, earning 14 points. 

Ava Brogren's 4:37.19 in the B final was enough for six points and a third place B finish while Anna Tindall finished in 4:39.32 to earn four points. 

In the final individual swim of the night, AU saw three score points in the A final to help tack onto its lead. Meesha Montgomery was neck and neck throughout most of the race to earn all-conference honors, finishing second with a qualifying time of 1:52.31. 

Sofia Hein and Amaya Street each turned in stellar performances, finishing fifth in 1:54.48 and sixth in 1:54.52, respectively, to combine for 27 points. 

The Vikings return to the pool for day three starting at 10 a.m., for the 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast and 200 fly prelims.
