BROOKINGS, S.D. – In the final weekend of competition before the conference meet, Augustana track and field made one last trek to South Dakota State and again put on quite the showing across multiple events.
After qualifying for the event finals,
Lily Juhnke ran a 7.59—just .01 off her PR—for third place as
Jennifer Noutsougan tied her prelim qualifying time and new personal best with a 7.88 for sixth place.
Tyler Christianson took fifth overall in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a new PR of 8.48 while on the women's side,
Maria Pedroso clocked a 9.01 in the 60-meter hurdle finals for seventh place.
Trent DeCook claimed runner-up in the men's 200-meter invitational with a clocking a 21.91 as
Melik Davis and
Layton Johnson took eighth and 10
th in the 200-meter dash with times of 22.62 and 22.76, respectively.
In the women's 200-meter invitational,
Nyanas Kur continued her dominant hot streak this season with a 24.23 clocking to win the event and tie her school record. Noutsougan followed behind in sixth with a 25.79.
Caitlin Ostbye ran a personal best of 25.99 in the 200-meter dash and was joined by
Jayda Becker, who took seventh in a PR of 26.38.
Maia Peterson earned runner-up status in the 400-meter invitational with her time of 57.33 as
Ella Heinitz took fifth in 57.60. Ostbye added in another runner-up finish with a 59.39 for second in the 400-meter dash.
In the 800-meter runs,
Ethan Boyens clocked a 1:55.35 for seventh place in the men's and
Sydnee Serck took fourth in 2:16.59.
Four Vikings finished in the top 10 of the men's 1000-meter run with
Kieran Weigelt (2:34.00) in fourth,
Alex Schumacher (2:34.38) in fifth and
Parker Fitzgerald (2:40.35) in ninth.
Distance domination continued in the men's mile as
Addisu Haverly ran a PR of 4:29.05 for fifth place.
Ethan Sadler followed with a 4:31.78 for seventh and
Beau Brock came eighth in 4:34.23.
PRs were the theme of the men's and women's 3000-meter runs as
Patrick Vogel took fifth in a personal best 8:54.12 and freshman
Kaelyn Nelson ran a 10:45.48 for fifth and a PR.
Kylee Sallee collected a second-place finish in the long jump with her mark of 18-03.75 and
Ellen Merkley was fourth with a 17-05.25. Over in the triple jump,
Mackenzie Hemmer was fourth with a 35-10.50 as Lexi Olderbak (34-07.00) was ninth and
Nyamal Changson (33-09.25) came 10
th.
The meet concluded with the men's 4x400-meter relay, where the 'A' team of DeCook,
Liam Schick, Christianson and
Jude Jarding ran a 3:16.63 for second place and the fifth-best time in school history.
Augustana will head to Mankato, Minn., next weekend for the two-day NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 28 and March 1.
