HOLLAND, Mich. – Two more records fell and two qualifying marks were hit as the Augustana men's swimming and diving team closed action at the GLIAC Championships Friday, placing seventh overall with 229 points.
Matthew Pietsch had quite the weekend in the 200 back. He broke the program record with a time of 1:46.50 in a time trial on Wednesday night and followed it with a time that placed him in the A final. Pietsch closed the night with a B-cut qualifying time of 1:47.09 to earn a seventh place finish.
Noah Mooney collected five points when he zoomed to a time of 1:51.04.
Also earning a qualifying time was
Mason Kauffeld in the 200 breast. Kauffeld finished in 2:00.58, just missing a program record but hitting a B-cut while earning a sixth place finish. In the B final,
Zheng Yeap added three points to the board when he finished in 2:05.87.
Another relay record fell in the final event of the night. The team of
Isaac Rokusek,
Peyton Bartsch,
Collin Wilcynski and
Pedro Borin knocked over a second off of the previous program record, earning a time of 3:02.38 to earn 26 team points.
David Binsfeld tallied four points with a 13th place finish in the 1m dive, adding up to 399.15 points.
Aidan McCusker got the Vikings started in the 1650 freestyle, collecting points in the first men's event of the night. McCusker locked down four points with a time of 16:20.11.
The team will await NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships selections to see who will head to Indianapolis, Indiana, March 11-15.
